How Safe is Safe on the Internet

The DuPage Library System Legislative Advocacy Committee, inspired by the Illinois Library Association has created a bookmark and a list of websites to assist individuals in learning about internet safety.
The Internet is an amazing resource which
allows people to find information that a few
years ago was difficult or even impossible to
uncover. However, along with this fantastic new
resource there are some dangers. This document
has been developed to help parents, teachers,
and librarians to find information regarding safe
use of the Internet and to share that
information with our children.
The following sites have been selected as a
starting point to learn more about blogging,
social networks, instant messaging, chat rooms,
cyber bullying, Internet fraud, and cyber
stalking. You will find helpful tips to share with
elementary, middle, and high school students as
well as a quiz to test
your online risk, a safety
pledge, and sample contracts for children
and
parents regarding Internet use.
The Internet is here to stay, so we must teach
our children about the benefits and the dangers
of this very powerful resource.
