March/April 2011 One of a librarian's favorite jobs is to recommend books to patrons. The Glen Ellyn library is offering an exciting new service for avid readers. "Book Match" gives cardholders the opportunity to receive a customized list of titles prepared by our expert reader's advisory team. Fill out this short questionnaire, and within a week to ten days your list will be ready for you.
 
January/February 2011 Downloadable music is here! The library now subscribes to FreegalMusic. Glen Ellyn Public Library cardholders may download music to any MP3 player and can download to both PCs and Macs. Three songs per week can be downloaded. Click on Online Resources then click on Digital Downloadable Collections to access downloadable songs.

eReaders will be a popular gift this holiday season. Borrow your ebooks from the library! Download ebooks and audio books to your computer or a device through the library website at eMediaLibrary! Browse, check out, and download titles for free. Unfortunately, you cannot download titles to a Kindle. To learn what devices you can use, see this page of supported devices. We just added 15,000 more titles –check them out.

We have a number of booklists on the web site to help you decide what to read next. For children's booklists go to For Kids and click on Youth Booklists. For teen lists go to Teen Scene and click on Booklists. For lists of books for adults go to Reader's Corner and click on Booklists, Suggestions and Websites. In addition the staff at the youth and adult reference desks are happy to help you choose a book.

You can become an informed voter at the Glen Ellyn Public Library! Ask at the second floor Information Desk for the red Election Day binder. In it you will find information about all of the candidates, judges, and propositions that Glen Ellyn residents will be voting for on November 2. National, state, and local races are all covered. In one place, you can find biographical information about the candidates, official websites, and endorsements. We are adding information daily as endorsements are made. Get more information and see a list of campaign websites.

We have a new automotive database called Alldata. It is available for use in the library. This database provides vehicle manufacturers' diagnostic and repair information. Come into the library and try it out.

We have a new scanner on the second floor that can send a document to your email and can save a document to a USB drive. There is no cost for sending a document with the scanner. You can also make a regular photocopy with the scanner by sending a print job to the printer and releasing the job with your library card. Photocopy prints are 10 cents each for black and white and 50 cents for color copies. Come try out the new machine!
 
We have a new way you can chat with us. In the upper right corner of the web page you can click where it says Questions? Click to Chat online with a Librarian. This will take you to our Contact Us page where you will find a chat box available during regular library hours. Type a question and someone will answer you shortly.

525 volumes of reference books are available to you at home or office with your Glen Ellyn Library card. Just enter your search in the right column under the Gale Virtual Reference Library. Call or stop by the second floor Reference Desk and we would be happy to help you find the information you are looking for.

You can receive e-newsletters in your e-mail for reading suggestions in several genre. Would you would like e-mail suggestions for fiction, mysteries, romances, non-fiction, children's books and more? Click on
Good Reads in Your Inbox in the left column of our page under Blogs and More, and sign up for the categories you would like to receive.
 
The Library can send you an email when checked out materials will soon be due, when you have overdue materials, and when requested material is available for you to pickup. Go to My Account and click on Get Library Notices By Email. By providing your e-mail address you are helping your library go green and save tax dollars.

We have a Public FAX machine on the second floor near the Adult Services Reference Desk. You can send faxes, not receive them. Faxes cost $1.50 for the first page and $1.00 for each additional page. It takes Debit or Credit cards. To send international faxes the fee is $4.95 for the 1st page and $3.45 each additional page.

English language learners you can study English on your own computer. You may select your native language (such as Spanish) as the interface language. From www.gepl.org, click the Online Resources tab and scroll down to Tell Me More and click again. It takes only a few minutes to install with your Glen Ellyn Public Library card number (you will need to use Internet Explorer as your web browser since Tell Me More does not work with Firefox and Safari).
